چکیده
Methods In this observational study, 20 stable intubated patients with normal cardiac function undergoing prolonged ventilation (>10 days) in whom 3 attempts of spontaneous breathing trials failed, were evaluated. Diaphragmatic muscle function was assessed invasively by the tension-time index of the diaphragm (TTdi), an indicator of diaphragm endurance time. Additional physiologic measurements of respiratory system were obtained using esophageal balloon catheter.

The effects of foot massage on physiologic indicators in critically ill patients
The perpuse of this research is to determine the effect of foot massage on physiologic indicators including pulse, respiration and mean arterial pressure. The hypothesis of this research is that foot massage decreases the patient´s heart rate, respiratory rate and mean arterial pressure. This research is a quasiexperimental study and a self-control clinical trial with repeated measures in witch...

متن کاملComparison of Respiratory Muscle Electromyography between Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis and Healthy Subjects
Purpose: Scoliosis is one of the most common spinal deformities that affect chest wall mechanics. Scoliosis results in ventilator disorders and respiratory muscle weakness. However, the mechanism of these disorders is still unknown. The main objective of this study was to identify the intensity of respiratory muscles activity in patients with idiopathic scoliosis compare with healthy indi...
متن کاملThe Relationship between Vitamin E Plasma and BAL Concentrations, SOD Activity and Ventilatory Support Measures in Critically Ill Patients
Vitamin E is a potent reactive oxygen metabolites (ROM) scavenger. It is a lipid-soluble vitamin and its main function is to protect polyunsaturated fatty acids against oxidative stress. Twenty-five mechanically ventilated Intensive Care Unit (ICU) adult patients participated in a prospective randomized clinical trial receiving either placebo (10 patients) or 3 IM doses (1000 IU each) of vitami...
